Every carmaker needs at least one trusty test track, but really, the more circuits available, the merrier. When it comes to the high-performance league, Ferrari has Fiorano, Lotus stays loyal to Hethel, McLaren uses Dunsfold, while Porsche, Lamborghini and Bugatti go to Nardo when they're not at the Nürburgring or Ehra Lessien.
Aston Martin also built its AMR Nürburgring Performance Center in the neighborhood of "The Green Hell," and the results speak for themselves. But Germany is far from Croydon, and so to make the work easier, Aston Martin has chosen Silverstone to be the new base of its testing and development program.
Opening this October, Aston Martin’s prototype testing at Silverstone will focus particularly on chassis dynamics and high speed-handling development. In other words, this historic circuit will be Chief Vehicle Attribute Engineer Matt Becker's playground, covered in rubber dust at all times.
To make the automaker feel welcome, Aston gets a self-contained pit complex with exclusive access to the circuit. In addition to these facilities, Aston will also have access to a variety of circuit configurations and dynamic handling areas.
As part of the deal, Silverstone has also purchased a fleet of seven Lime Essence-hued Vantages, which will be available to customers through Silverstone's driving experience program.
